Guardianship

Guardianship

If you are a parent of minor children, you know there is nothing in the world more important than making sure they are raised by the people you want should something happen to you – – even money! I often say to my clients that young families actually need a Will MORE than elderly people, because for the next 18 years, nothing is more important that making sure your children are taken care of by the right people.

All parents should have a Will so they can name their choice of legal guardians for their minor children. If you and your spouse or partner pass away without one, ultimately a court will decide who raises your minor children – and they could end up choosing the last person you would ever want!  Problems can also arise when more than one family member seeks guardianship of your minor children. In this case, they have no choice but to fight it out in court.

We make sure all clients with minor children have named legal guardians in a Will or Pour-Over Will.
